Sandra van Wijk defended her PhD thesis "Pooling and Polling" at Eindhoven University of Technology on April 24, 2012 (see http://tue.academia.edu/SandraVanWijk/Books).
Her research is a joint project of the Mathematics department (Stochastic Operational Research group) and the School of Industrial Engeneering (Operations, Planning, Accounting, and Control group). Furthermore, she works at research institute EURANDOM (Queueing and Performance Analysis track). Her supervisors are prof.dr. Onno Boxma, prof.dr.ir. Ivo Adan, prof.dr. Ton de Kok, and prof.dr.ir. Geert-Jan van Houtum.
She works on the project 'Creation of Pooling in Inventory and Queueing Models', in which she mainly investigates lateral transshipments in spare parts inventory models. Also, she studies the pooling of servers in queueing models. Next to this, she works on polling models, which are queueing models where multiple queues are served by a single server.
In 2012, she visited the computer science department of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU, Pittsburgh, PA, USA) for three months, working together with Mor Harchol-Balter and Alan Scheller-Wolf.
Sandra's research interests focus on operations research, performance analysis of stochastic systems, queueing theory, and inventory management.
Sandra graduated from the Eindhoven University of Technology in Industrial and Applied Mathematics in 2007. She has been a PhD student at the same university since then. Previously, she worked as teaching assistant, and conducted internships in the Stochastic Operational Research group of the Eindhoven University of Technology and at Philips Research Eindhoven.
Currently, she works at Eindhoven University of Technology and is seeking for a new position.
